Statement

Coline Renard (Raposa) (1995, France) is a visual artist and political scientist living between Paris and Santo Domingo. Her art, created with detailed strokes of vibrant acrylic markers on black paper, sheds light on overlooked realities. With a bachelor's degree in Latin American literature and two master's degrees in political science focusing on Latin America, Coline honed her artistic skills through drawing classes at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the National University of Colombia and graphic design studies at the University of Cape Town. Her work has been showcased internationally in cities like Mexico City, Santo Domingo, Madrid, and Bogotá.

Coline has the habit of transforming the tragic into something aesthetically bearable. The poison of our society runs through the ink of her markers. She considers artists as observers who make the artifact that others need in order to look at the sun without covering their eyes. In a world desensitized by media saturation, the artist faces the blinding lucidity, processes it and returns it in another form, to preserve sensitivity to the tragic but also to the beautiful. Coline’s art art revolves around the idea of relearning to see: understanding the interdependence between humanity and the broader web of life, fostering empathy, consideration, and respect for all beings. Coline draws inspiration from seeking relief in intolerable situations and finding wonder in the world's beauty. Each of her works captures the blend of utopias and dystopias coexisting in her head, inviting viewers to contemplate alternative ways of living and envision a more compassionate future.
